Pargas streamlines its operations with the help of KeyAqua

Pargas city’s water-, wastewater- and stormwater networks are located on four different islands. The total length of these separate networks is 340 km, including 150 km of water supply network, 110 km of wastewater network, and 80 km of stormwater network. The network has a total of 3,000 different consumer locations and the area’s estimated number of residents is about 15,000.

Background

By 2012, the water supply plant’s network maps were already in electronic form, but there was still room for improvement regarding the overall functionality and flow of information between stakeholders. The need for an easy way of sharing information was particularly significant, as employees of the plant, city representatives, and contractors had to get access to network information effortlessly and quickly.

KeyAqua's fully browser-based Network Information System (NIS) fit these requirements perfectly. From a functional perspective, KeyAqua was also able to provide precise network documentation management as well as versatile reporting and analysis tools.

The solution and benefits

The implementation of KeyAqua was completed in late 2014 which included setting up the system, transferring old network documentation and training the plant’s employees. Official production use began in early 2015.

Today, nearly every employee of the water supply plant uses KeyAqua daily, both in the office and in the field, thanks to its browser-based mobile interface. The tool is utilized for managing reparations and planning long-term renovations for the network. In daily use it’s crucial to see the network itself, its exact location and features and the customers connected to the network.

With KeyAqua, maintenance and investigations carried out in the field can be handled via smartphone's web browser. The system presents information in a way that allows network objects to be located precisely and conveniently. In the office, KeyAqua can be used to divide the network into areas and locate renovation sites based on the information stored in the system. This way, resources can be allocated to the right place at the right time.
